Roadside Dreams

A collection of recordings from the road

¿Que sueño te gustaria cumplir Antes de que llegue tu hora?

What dream would you like to fulfill before your time comes?

Through-skating has given me the opportunity to meet people I’d maybe never run into under any other circumstance. I want to share with you a bit about their hopes and dreams for the future.

As I skate across Cuba, I will be asking those I meet a critical question: “What do you want to do before you die?

I will post their answers here…

I met Liandin while making my way out to the western point of María La Gorda, the starting point for my thru-skate across Cuba. It was a long ride out, and we chatted across language barriers for quite a while. This is Liandin’s Roadside Dream.

I met Yordania on the fourth stop of my thru-skate when I stayed at her home near Valle de Viñales. At this point I was actually understanding a decent amount of Spanish, but please do forgive my linguistic infancy. Yordania is kind-hearted and strong. This is her Roadside Dream.

When I met Alberty in Havana he was making a wooden spoon from an old skate deck. He makes earrings this way as well, all by hand. He took me to a couple skate spots around the city. Whether he’s joking with you or smacking the concrete, Alberty smiles the same. This is his Roadside Dream.
